In preparation for a new pastor, the congregation remodeled the parsonage in the summer of 1945. A furnace, water system, bathroom and kitchen sink were installed in the house. Much of the work was done by members of Holy Cross, donating their time. The pastor's study was also furnished by contributions from the members.
Rev. Paul E. Krause of Mobile, Alabama, accepted the congregation's call. He began his ministry as their pastor and school teacher in September 1945. The call document stipulated that the pastor should be able to preach in German and English as well as being the school teacher.
The school board decided to improve the school curriculum for the 1945-46 school year. New books were bought for the new school year. In 1946 new desks and a library were provided.
Krause conducted the adult choir and taught the grade school children to sing in three-part harmony.
In 1946 the congregation discontinued worship services that had always been held on second holidays (second Christmas Day, Easter Monday, Pentecost Monday).
The weekly Adult Bible Class dates back to Rev. Krause's ministry. The Sunday School had its beginning in 1946 with summer sessions only. The first Sunday School teachers were: Edith Buettner Gerber, Georgia Buettner Friedrich, Dorothy Buettner Muench, Florence Thorburg Schmidt and John Thorburg. The Sunday School was divided into Senior, Intermediate, Junior, Primary and Beginner divisions.
In November 1946, English took over as the predominant language for services. Each Sunday the service was done in English. However, every other Sunday had a German service which preceded the English service. This arrangement continued until July 1961.
Holy Cross took part in the Centennial Services for the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod along with other area churches. A joint service was held April 27, 1947.
